Special Speaker Next Week!

Abbe Herzig* will be visiting the department on Monday and Tuesday of next week. She will give a talk to the department at 4pm on Tuesday, September 21 in PHSC 1105 entitled "Apprenticeship in Mathematics: Learning to Think, Act, and Feel like a Mathematician".

Abbe will also be available to talk with faculty and students on Monday and in the middle of the day on Tuesday. She will talk about the apprenticeship model of graduate training, whereby a student's training consists of three basic components: learning the knowledge base and skills, performing the actual work of the professional, and becoming a part of the professional community. The buzzwords are learning to think, act, and feel like the professional.

So, come to the talk and find out more about being a mathematician!
