Joint Mathematics Meetings, January 6-9

The Joint Mathematics Meetings is an annual, national meeting of mathematicians sponsored by the AMS, the MAA, and many other national, math-related organizations. This year's meeting is January 6-9, 2011 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The JMM is a great opportunity to meet other mathematicians, see what research is being done in various areas of mathematics, meet with employers (if you're on the job market this year), and maybe even give a talk! There are a few things related to JMM that we wanted to call your attention to:

1. The Joint Mathematics Meetings website: http://jointmathematicsmeetings.org/meetings/national/jmm/2125_intro.html. This site has information about the meetings, sessions and other talks, housing, transportation, registration, and all other general information about attending JMM.

2. The deadline to submit an abstract of a talk is September 22. More information about submitting an abstract can be found here: http://www.ams.org/cgi-bin/abstracts/abstract.pl.

3. Want to go, but short on funds? Check out the Travel Funds page on our graduate website. Also, JMM organizers have some funds available (under certain restrictions). Information on these grants is available at http://www.ams.org/programs/travel-grants/grad-students/emp-student-JMM.

Those of you who have been before, or have additional information or links that may be helpful, please feel free to share with us in the comments!

  1. Unfortunately, this has further entrenched curricula and instructional practices that limit students’ abilities to use math in their futures. help me with math
